“When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’ Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking, and jumping, and praising God.” Acts 3:3, 6-8 NIV
Over the past almost 5 years, I have been dealing with daily pain in my lower back. The pain in my back has prevented me from participating in many activities that I enjoy doing, which has caused me to cry out to the Lord. The lame man asked for money and he received healing. Similarly to the lame man, after about 3 years into my chronic pain, I did not know what to ask for either. It was at this time that I was feeling physically and mentally worn out from my constant daily pain, that I asked the Lord to just heal me to the point of having minimal discomfort so that I could at least perform my daily needs. Due to the pain I was experiencing at that time, in my prayers and in my heart, I believed that even that would make me content. The Lord was gracious in answering my prayer, but now I wish that I had asked for complete physical healing.
Dear readers, may we not limit our requests in our prayers to our Almighty God as He wants to give us so much more. More important than our physical needs, is that He also offers us complete spiritual healing. It is almost Christmas, the time that we celebrate Christ’s birth. It is through Christ which is God’s gift to us, that upon believing in Him that we can have spiritual healing and life eternal. Upon receiving His gift, like the lame man, we too can get up, walk, jump, and praise God!

I think we often underestimate God. Reading this story makes me think of the radio program where the host prays for the caller and expects immediate healing. We tend to be skeptical of this and yet God is the Great Physician. Who says healing is impossible??
