“So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.” Acts 6:7 NIV
This verse stood out to me because of all the action and change that was taking place. We read that there was spreading of the word of God, they were experiencing an increase of disciples, and also witnessing the conversion of many Jewish priests.
One of our (now adult) children’s favourite Christmas movies is Elf. in the movie, one of the quotes from Buddy the elf is, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Though somewhat humorous, it is also quite logical and true.
The disciples knew and had experienced that which was true – Christ’s message of salvation. It was now up to them to spread that knowledge and to tell others about this wonderful gift. It was not going to happen on its own and it was Christ’s command to them in the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:16-20.
May we also do our part in spreading the Word of God. The great commission was spoken to the eleven disciples, but it is also a charge for all followers of Christ today. And what better time for spreading this word of God than right now, to a world that cries out for peace.

As I read this I was reminded of Paul and Silas singing hymns and praying deep in prison, what an inspiration that is to us brother!

Absolutely. To be able sing, pray, and give praise to God when all seems lost, is a great example for us and ought to be inspiring for all!

“At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.”
Acts of the Apostles 6:15 NLT
It’s kind of surreal to think they were staring at this supernatural event and still didn’t repent of their false accusations. Sometimes even with all the nudgings to do the right thing, we fail.
