Acts 19

“The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.” Acts 19:32 NIV

This verse sounds a lot like today’s world and circumstances. People just want to fit in or belong to something. There are many movements, many protests, and varying demonstrations that one can join in by making a sign, raising their voice, driving in a convoy, or walking a picket line with other individuals. As the size of the group grows and the number of signs increase, as the chants become louder and louder, as the convoy stretches further than one imagined, and as the picket line begins to form more of a wall, the excitement and rush within the movement grows with it.

What is ironic with that, is the fact that just like the people in Ephesus, many in the protests today do not even know why they are there. They do not understand the purpose nor the end goal.

As believers in Christ we are part of a demonstration – we are to model Christ in every way possible. We are to live holy lives, walking in the way of love, without having even a hint of impurity. We understand the purpose, we know the end goal, and that is why we follow Christ and proclaim His goodness; and we do this, to bring glory to Him.

  1. “Inside, the people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn’t even know why they were there.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭19:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬

That exact verse stood out for me too. It makes me think of the lineup I used to see without knowing what it was for. It genuinely made me want to get in line for it because if so many people are lining up then it must be good?? I think in a society of influencers, people can be easily manipulated and May don’t even understand how they were. May we seek to know why we’re following instead of blindly joining a random group.
