Hebrews 4

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15 NIV

The writer of this letter emphasizes that Jesus Christ is both God and man. On one hand, He is the exalted and eternal Son of God – the full expression of God’s being. He acted as God’s agent in creation and He sustains all things by His powerful word; God will some day subject all things to Him.

While at the same time, Jesus is fully human; He suffered an atoning death on the cross, but now sits at God’s right hand where He intercedes for us. No person greater than Jesus Christ has ever lived.

  1. “So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A few weeks ago, we worked 21 hours straight. It was exhausting but it had to be done. When we were finished, we desperately craved rest. We couldn’t really return to our best selves without it. I think that’s why God shows us the importance of rest by leading by example. Imagine the unbearableness of never being able to rest and always having to keep going. This is the warning: disobey God and never have His rest.
