Hebrews 10

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:22-23 NIV

It is because of what Jesus Christ, the High Priest, has done for us that we are allowed to draw near to God. We are invited to be with Him, to join Him in his presence. We do not need to go through someone else, for the blood of Christ has already bridged that gap. In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We do not need to wait for a particular day of the year to enter into His presence, we can approach Him at any time of the day.

The road to Heaven was made possible by a crucified Saviour; His death and resurrection allows for a new way of life for us, and a life eternal. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”

For those who believe this to be true, have a hope like no other. May we then hold tightly to the promises of our God, and to His truth which is our hope.

  1. “The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A shadow is just a faint indication of its source. While we can recognize the silhouette of an object in its shadow, it pales in comparison to the real thing. The colours, textures, and size are not clearly evident by the shadow. When we are satisfied by the shadow alone we miss out on the real deal. Let us not settle for just the shadow when we can have the brilliance of the real thing because Christ is offering that to us.
